Thoughts from Coach Renner on the Upcoming Indoor Track Season

Track and cross-country coach Doug Renner is optimistic about the upcoming indoor season. Coming out of cross-country season, Renner says new freshman talent has emerged that will hopefully carry through to track.

He sees great potential in the women’s team.  “We’re hoping to move three or four spots up in the conference standing with the women,” he says. Notable standouts to look out for on the women’s team include sprinter Jasmine McCormick and cross country and distance star Becky Kaler.

Renner says the men’s team is also looking good but he can make fewer predictions on their season. “The women have long standing, reliable talent” says Renner, “while the men are young, we’ll have to see.” He is excited to have standout throwers Chuck Kronmiller and Carlos Hernandez as well as sprinter Jordan Birden “to name a few” he says, “I don’t want to name too many and miss important people who really come through.” Also joining the men’s team, fresh out of leading the men’s cross country team for the later part of the season is freshman distance runner Chris Jones.

Coach Renner seems optimistic about both teams. The women draw on the consistent talent of the previous few years while the men gain new stars. This will be a season to pay attention to, with potential ramifications for the outdoor season.
