McDaniel College filled the last of its open coaching positions Tuesday by announcing Jessica Cortese as the school’s new head volleyball coach.
Cortese most recently served as head volleyball coach at Sewanee [the University of the South]. She also served as assistant sports information director during her two years at the university.
Prior to her work at Sewanee, she served as a graduate assistant for the volleyball team at Florida State University. She graduated from Gettysburg College in 2005.
Athletic Director Paul Moyer told the McDaniel website that Cortese ”knows what it takes to be successful” and said he’s “confident that over time she’ll return our team to its tradition of excellence being highly competitive on the nationally level.”
Cortese told the website she “look[s] forward to working with a great group of young women who are hungry to win championships,” and called it “an honor to coach in the Centennial Conference.”
This hiring, the third coaching hire at McDaniel in the past eight days, brings an official end to a time of upheaval in McDaniel’s athletic department that began on December 9, with the resignations of head football coach Tim Keating, women’s soccer coach Bryan Shumaker, and volleyball coach Carole Molloy.
Cortese officially starts at McDaniel on April 6.
