Westminster Community Spotlight: Billy Lyve

I sat down with Billy Lyve to discuss his non-profits and businesses– Find Your Purpose, Wisdom Court Entertainment, and Movers and Shakers, and how he strives to mentor younger kids within Westminster. After he graduated from Gateway, he knew he wanted to help the youth and give back.

Lyve founded Find Your Purpose in 2022 to give back to the youth of Westminster by serving as a mentor. Before Find Your Purpose started officially in 2022, he was already mentoring kids, so he decided to do it full-time.

“I founded Find Your Purpose to be a voice for the voiceless.”

He says that he believes his stories and experiences can alter or change someone’s life for the better, and that kids can benefit from a stronger male figure in their life, which he can provide through his mentorship.

He uses his music production and promotion company, Wisdom Court Entertainment, to give other artists opportunities to perform and to provide events and education to kids within the Westminster area.

In the past, Wisdom Court has put on dance parties, Easter egg hunts, and brought music to different events around Westminster. Both additional nonprofits Wisdom Court Entertainment and Movers and Shakers Enterprises fall under the umbrella of Find Your Purpose, even though they are distinct entities.

Lyve created Movers and Shakers to help teach entrepreneur skills to youth and young adults while also providing employment opportunities. The business provides moving services, delivery and hauling, junk removal, and deep cleaning services.

In 2024, Movers and Shakers won the “Change Maker Award” at the Carroll Biz Challenge, where people can pitch their business ideas and gain funding.

“My one wish I have for Find Your Purpose this year is to have 1-2 good years of high funding, so I can do and buy whatever I want for the non-profit,” Lyve said.

On Saturday, February 22, he brought some of the kids to Urban Air Adventure Trampoline Park for a day of fun. In the future, he is doing the annual Easter egg hunt in Westminster, which is usually his biggest event of the year. He said that his goal with these fun events is to connect the community. On Saturday, April 26th, he will be hosting “Disruptive: The Workshop” where he will talk about his story and teach others to find their passion and to create their own path.

I asked him about one piece of advice he would give the youth, and he said, “If you have something you are really good at and like to do it, don’t think about what is cool or not. Just do it.”

Lyve says that he could do with more proper funding to help support Find Your Purpose and further the initiative.

He also would like to bring more music to the campus, as music is his passion.

“I would want to bring together other artists, not just hip-hop, but all kinds of music,” He said.

One way that people can help is by donating or creating connections to his non-profit. Lyve also said that he would like to talk at McDaniel College more and get the students more involved with Westminster’s local community.
