On October 2nd at 8:00pm, the McDaniel College Forum will be home to the third annual Hip-Hop on The Hill show. The show has become increasingly popular over the past two years and there’s no question that this year’s show is going to be a success.
Last year’s show featured the talents of about ten different performers; however, this year the show will focus on showcasing four independent performers from New York, Maryland, and Kentucky. They include the performers: Substantial, Pack FM, CunninLynguists, and the Lab Ratz Crew.
Senior, Clayton Rosa has organized this event for the past two years and there’s no doubt his experience helps things run as smooth as possible. Rosa said his experience will really help because he has “firsthand knowledge about what has to be improved this time around. He continued to explain his knowledge of the show’s strengths and weaknesses, which have given him “a better understanding as to what draws people to the event,” and says he will be utilizing that to the best of his ability to attract more people.
Lab Ratz Crew is a breakdance group from Baltimore, MD who will be performing during the show’s intermission. To help get the campus involved, there will be an “open-mic” portion of the show as well, which encourages artists to express themselves; this is first-come, first-serve so if you are interested you should definitely get there early. Eric Thunder, a McDaniel freshman will be the opening act for Lab Ratz Crew, and said that “whatever is done up there will not be rehearsed and will all be done on the spot.” This will be one of Thunder’s first public performances, and Rosa said “it’s a great thing to see freshmen getting involved like that.”
In the past two years, Hip-Hop on The Hill has proved to be a popular event and with the continued enthusiasm and support of the McDaniel community, this year will be no different.
