Located on Main Street in our very own Westminster, MD is the inexpensive, delicious, dine-in or take-out Lone Star Barbeque restaurant.
It started in New Windsor, MD and is now behind the strip mall-at 27 East Main St. Rear, Westminster, Maryland.
This little BBQ joint has been around for three years in town, and its popularity as a welcoming barbecue place has recently been growing. Lone Star offers a variety of different meat dishes, including beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and several other delicious choices. All orders, take out or dine in, come with a variety of sauces and choices of appetizing and savory sides such as coleslaw, mac n’ cheese, regular or sweet potato fries, green beans, and a few other side items that can be found on their menu.
Robert Pusateri and Bill Shaeffer are the two owners of the business. They stated that they are about to renovate the inside, putting in new booths and tables, along with a new floor, bar, lighting, etc. Luckily for McDaniel students, they’re also open to new employees. Pusateri said, “We are Bring-Your-Own-Beverage for now, but we’re working on a beer/wine license for the Spring. We’re a local small business trying to provide jobs and great food for the local community.”
Lone Star participated with a tent in the Westminster oyster stroll that took place last October, and since then is gaining more and more publicity. Many of those who attended the oyster stroll tried Lone Star’s signature pulled pork sandwiches or beef brisket and were pleased with their cheap, mouth-watering meals.
Several McDaniel students have been to Lone Star BBQ multiple times since they discovered it during the stroll and are always happy with their orders and the service. Matt Brady, a senior who has visited Lone Star multiple times mentioned, “It offers great food for a reasonable price.”
Bryan Contino, senior, agrees. “Their bacon mac and cheese is incredible.”
Although it is mainly known for its tasty barbecue choices, Lone Star is more inexpensive, without a doubt, than most of the other sit-down restaurants around town. You can purchase a whole pulled pork sandwich with fries/chips and a drink for about $7.
The friendly, accommodating staff and on-site prepared menu options make it a fresh and delicious option for customers.
Pusateri also mentioned that Lone Star helps out the community by donating 10 percent of their sales to local wounded veterans as well as families that are struggling financially with severely ill children.
