The student news publication at McDaniel has a long and varied history. Dating back more than 90 years, the paper has been known by a variety of names: The Black and White (1924-1925), The Gold Bug (1925-1975), Scrimshaw (1975-1981), The Phoenix (1981-2003), and finally The McDaniel Free Press (2004-today).
