Profile: Writing Center Director Josh Ambrose

Where did you work before McDaniel?

I was working at George Mason University in Virginia as an Assistant Writing Director.  I also taught and directed a summer camp for kids this year.

What’s your education?  Degrees, etc?

I majored in English and got my Bachelor’s from Penn State.  I also got my MFA in Creative Writing-Nonfiction at George Mason University.  At the moment, I am not pursuing my PhD.

What is your favorite part of or place in Westminster so far?

Well, right now, my screened-in back porch for the most part.  My old one was awful.  My wife always tried to grow tomatoes on the porch but everything died because it was near a highway.  I have enjoyed discovering Baugher’s and Hoffman’s though.

Favorite Movie?

  1. 1.      The Black Stallion—by Francis Ford Coppola
  2. 2.      The Empire Strikes Back

Favorite Book?

Probably the most influential book for me is Lord of the Rings.

Hobbies?

Photography, music, spending a lot of time outdoors, museums, and art shows

R-Patz or K-Stew?

I don’t know.  I feel like this is dangerous territory.  I think in Hollywood relationships there are no winners.

Super Bowl Pick?

I think the Steelers will win, but don’t care if they do or not.  I keep up with movie news more [than sports] though and music news.  I am not too hipster to admit I follow Pitchfork.

What is your favorite procrastination method?

If I am super stressed out, I will clean and organize.  Usually I pull out my guitar though and do some rock n’ roll for a little while.

If you could be a super villain, which one would you be?

I am tempted to say Vadar, but . . . I am a huge Firefly/Serenity fan.  Actually, we’ll go with this.  Secretly I wish I could sing and dance like Dr. Horrible.
