McDaniel College hired their second new coach in three days, naming Sandra Lagana the college’s head women’s soccer coach.
Lagana, a 2000 graduate of nearby South Carroll High School who is leaving Ferrum College after five seasons as head coach for the women’s soccer team and assistant sports information director, takes over at McDaniel on March 19.
“As we conducted this search, it was clear that Sandy is not only an outstanding coach but also someone we wanted running our women’s soccer program,” McDaniel Athletic Director Paul Moyer said in an e-mail to the campus community.
“She has outstanding character, is bright, hard-working, and has been successful as both a player and coach, and we know she will be able to take our program to next level.”
Ferrum College’s women’s soccer team finished 9-8-2 in 2011, coming off of an 11-6-1 record in 2010. Before her tenure at Ferrum, she served as head coach at Mary Baldwin in 2006.
Lagana told the McDaniel Athletics website that she is “extremely excited to become part of the athletics staff and college community and look[s] forward to continuing and building upon the team’s success in the Centennial Conference.”
The Green Terror women’s soccer team finished 3-13 in the 2011 season.
