Student Government Association (SGA) elections will be held online from Feb. 24 until March 3.
Nick Bender ‘11, SGA President, is preparing his cabinet and the student body for the election process to select their successors.
Students should receive an email with the ballot and directions how to submit your vote. Anyone interested in running for president must have been a member of McDaniel’s SGA for one year. However, not all SGA positions require one year of experience—students of all majors and classes are eligible to run for the secretary position.
In the past, SGA has been responsible for many visible changes on campus. One notable campus addition is the flat screen televisions around campus that display news and information. One screen is located at the top of the stairs in Decker College Center (near the information desk) and the other is in Kriel Lounge. Other major SGA contributions include the transition to trayless meals and the conversion of the Game Room into the new McDaniel Rec Room (a.k.a. The Green Screen Room).
Sophomore Gesley Fisher commented that the new game room has “a variety of activities, such as Wii, board and card games. The variety of entertainment entails something for different student interests.”
This year, SGA made even more changes, such as the new winter and spring athletic poster calendars, new school apparel designs, and hopefully the completion of a student-designed-driven website, dubbed the Student Portal.
Bender said that in addition to all the changes that McDaniel is implementing, SGA and the Office of Student Engagement have revamped and rescheduled the allocations process.
The new allocations process “is more transparent and is more focused on accountability and fairness,” Bender said.
Bender said he improved several skills in his time as president, including leadership, time management, and political savvy.
