What do Dominoes do? They fall. That seems to be the case with the Mustang’s, Domino’s rivalry.
Domino’s has been serving McDaniel students for about twenty years now, and business has recently slowed down since the opening of Mustangs Pizza on August 10th 2010. Dominoes Manager Sean Gontarek confirmed that Mustangs posed a threat to Domino’s business. “Definitely the fact that they are closer and open later has really affected our sales,” said Gontarek.
Every year Domino’s sends out flyers advertising their latest deals to McDaniel students. These deals are very good, but they do not compare to Mustangs 20% discount for McDaniel students.
Bunky, the manager of Mustangs Pizza, said the reason why Mustangs is doing so well is because he worked very hard to market his business, and that hard work is now paying off.
In addition to the great deal, some students prefer the atmosphere of Mustang Pizza. Bunky and the staff engage in conversations with McDaniel students and more often than not you leave the store with great a story to tell.
Joe Browning, a senior at McDaniel, said “I think Mustang’s is a much better pizza experience than Domino’s, not only is the pizza better, but the atmosphere is priceless. Especially if you go pick up your food late night because that is when the magic happens.”
