Terror Sports Spotlight: Meet the Green

As part of an ongoing series in the McDaniel Free Press, we will profile interesting students from the Green Terror sports teams. This issue, we will introduce you to some of the McDaniel athletes with the best records in their sport for the end of the year.

Football – Mike Weick –

Named to the All-Centennial Conference Team in 2008, Weick was the foundation to the defense for the Terror, dropping opponent players 123 times, leading the conference in tackles and averaging 12.3 stops per game. His 123 tackles is tied for 10th all-time in a single season.

Basketball (M) – Josh McKay –

Named to the All-Centennial Conference Team this season, McKay led the Terror offensively with 265 points, adding 161 rebounds in 22 minutes a game. McKay also added 21 blocks and 13 steals.

Basketball (W) – Ali Moreland –

The sophomore was named to the All-Centennial Conference Team after this season, and with great reason. In another playoff season, Moreland dominated with 360 points, averaging 13.3 per contest. In addition, Moreland tacked on 84 assists and 74 steals.

Lax (M) – Gibbs Preston –

After a disappointing 2008 campaign, McDaniel fought back into Centennial competition with Preston as the “straw stirring the drink.” Preston netted 33 goals this season for the Terror and 27 assists.

Lax (W) – Britanny Baer –

One of four awarded All-Centennial honors, Baer led the Terror and the rest of the conference offensively this season. Baer tickled the twine with a program record 76 goals adding 12 assists in 2009, adding another All-Centennial nod.

Baseball – Harold Baines, Jr. –

Known as “HB”, Baines raked Centennial pitching in 2009, batting .375 receiving All-Centennial Team along with Russ Coover. Baines shelled a single-season record 48 hits, including 11 doubles, three home runs and 34 runs scored.

Softball – Sam Staub –

Staub finished the 2009 campaign batting .311 through 90 plate appearances, sending 3 over the fence. Staub also took 44 total bases, slugging .489.
