Like to spend your time outside? Like to be active and have fun at the same time? If you do, you’re not alone, that is what the Outdoors Club is all about. Kim Moran, one of the presidents of the club, says the club is simply a group of people who have fun in different outdoor activities. “I’d rather be outside any day,” Moran said, referring to her love of being outdoors.
“It’s a great way to hang out with friends and to try new activities,” said Natalie Fitzpatrick, treasurer.
Previous activities have included hiking trips and mountain biking, and some future events will include rock climbing, camping trips and canoeing/kayaking.
According to Moran, another possible future event is a cookout dinner with typical cookout foods such as smores and hotdogs.
The group meets at the end of each month.
“At the meeting, we give out the calendar for the following month, and people sign up for what they can do,” she said.
In addition to handing out calendars, Moran said, “We get ideas from the members and then we decide on what to do in the future.”
Ironing out the logistics for each trip is no easy task.
“Kristen [Berhle] and I organize everything and we search for the places where we can do our activities,” Moran said. Kristen Berhle is co-president of the club.
In addition to both presidents taking charge of organizing the activities, they are both certified to drive the shuttle buses in order to easily transport the members to and from the events.
Funds for the group’s endeavors come from the Outdoors Club’s past account.
“The Outdoors Club was in existence, but it was not really run, and so we use the funds from that,” Moran stated.
In addition, each member has a $20 membership due for the year, which helps fund the activities. The club also sells T-shirts to meet the funding demands.
Having fun, while at the same time enjoying the outdoors and being active are the goals that fuel the Outdoors Club. For more information, contact the College Activities office.
